Starting with experiencing God’s restoration in putting back together the shattered pieces of John Thomas and Mary Lisa’s life and marriage, they saw God’s promises manifest physically.  After both trying to fix things on their own with multiple failures, they experienced that His original way for life and marriage is truly is possible only in relationship with Him.  Both coming from divorced families and being delivered from addictions themselves in the past, they failed early on in their marriage to relate to each other in a life-giving way.  Finally, after an 18month separation and pending divorce, they experienced God move a mighty way in their situation that seemed hopeless.  They discovered only God alone could save them if they were to truly take Him as His Word and put in action the lasting solution of ongoing prayer. 
During their separation and in early restoration they learned the county they presently lived and both grew up in, reported to have one of the highest divorce rates in the nation.  The effects of anger, fear, frustration, isolation, hurt and unforgiveness in marriages were producing an average of 33 divorce filings a day at one point, which reported to affect %72 of the population.  They realized they were not alone.  Not only were there a lot of broken marriages and broken families around them, but a lot of broken vows and broken hearts. Through this experience and learning about the devastating effects of the breakdown of the family in their own county, they were moved to pray fervently and begin a prayer meeting at the local courthouse. The vision of the Ten09 Effect was born as they prayed, sought God, waited on Him, and were being mended back together.  In this discovery of new life and hope other individuals, marriages and families are beginning to experience new life and hope too.
